If you are new to accounting or looking to advance your professional career, we can help you achieve your accounting goals. This certificate consists of five key accounting courses that provide you with the skills to handle the accounting requirements of a business or office. Learn the basics of applied accounting, budget and financial reporting and specialized accounting software. This certificate is ideal for careers as a junior accountant, payroll clerk, accounting technician, accounting clerk, bookkeeper, and junior financial analyst. Keyboarding skills with a minimum of 15 words per minute are recommended.

ACE TESOL Certificate

110 - 120 Hours

The ACE TESOL Certificate course is specifically designed to provide participants with the tools, strategies, skills and knowledge to be successful at teaching adults in English language programs either in Canada or abroad. It is recognized by TESL Canada for TESL Canada Professional Certification Standard One . ACE provides a strong focus on practical teaching skills and bases its coursework upon the most current teaching theory and methodologies. Course participants will improve communication and presentation skills and will increase self-confidence in their teaching abilities.

Prerequisite:

Applicants should have a university degree* and must also provide evidence of English language proficiency through one of the following:

  • iBT: Overall 101 with a minimum of 23 in Listening, 24 in Reading, 27 in Speaking and 27 in Writing or
  • IELTS Academic: 7 overall with a minimum score of 7 in each skill area or
  • High school graduation from a high school in Canada , including minimum English Grade 12 score of 70% or
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from a university where English is the language of instruction and administration (as per TESL Canada Standards)

*Please note: Applicants without a university degree can be accepted into the ACE TESOL course, but would not be eligible for TESL Canada certification until a university degree is also completed.

AutoCAD Operator Certificate

120 hours

The AutoCAD Operator Certificate prepares the professional or student to work in the exciting field of Computer Aided Design/Drafting. You will be trained to work as an AutoCAD Operator in a variety of industrial and business areas including architecture, manufacturing, mapping, surveying, electronics, interior design, landscaping, and electrical, mechanical and environmental engineering. The program is also designed for working professionals who want to update their AutoCAD skills.

You can earn the certificate in two different ways

Feng Shui Consultant Certificate

You can earn the Feng Shui Consultant Certificate with three 18-hour courses, scheduled on evenings and/or weekends. These courses are based on BTB and Compass Feng Shui traditions.

About your instructor:

Carrieanne Fonger is a graduate of the 3 year Nancy Santo-Pietro BTB Consultant Training Program (Brooklyn, New York). She has studied under Master R.D. Chin, Melani Lewandowski, Daniel David Kennedy and His Holiness Professor Lin Yun Rinpoche. Her current studies are under Her Holiness Khadro Crystal Chu Rinpoche. She has been consulting since 2003 in the BTB Tradition.

Carrieanne Fonger is a Feng Shui Consultant and Interning Doctor of Chinese Medicine. Immigration Practitioner Certificate

Bow Valley College is pleased to offer the Immigration Practitioner Certificate program designated by the ICCRC. The aim of this program is to educate individuals interested in guiding immigrants through the immigration process by navigating complex Canadian Immigration Policies and Procedures. It is essential that practitioners are registered, educated immigration professionals to assist with immigration advice and representation. The Bow Valley College Immigration Practitioner Certificate program adheres to and promotes the professional standards the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council (ICCRC) demands. Upon completion of this certificate program successful applicants will have the training necessary to challenge the ICCRC’s Full Skills examination. Once admitted to the profession, practitioners will be held to high professional standards through continuous professional development and mandatory practice management education, all taught and developed by the IPC governing body, the ICCRC.

The IPC program will be of interest for individuals looking to:

IMPR9101: Introduction to Canadian Immigration Law and Policy

This course introduces the practice and regulation of immigration consultants. It includes an introduction to Canadian immigration history and the formulation of immigration law and policy. Content addresses sources of immigration law, the decision-making organizations, the principles of administrative law and legal terminology pertaining to immigration.

IMPR9102: Inadmissibility, Enforcement and Removals

This course presents the grounds of inadmissibility which constitute barriers to admission to Canada for all temporary and permanent applicants. It also deals with the enforcement of immigration rules at the border and inside Canada, including the removals process for those found to be inadmissible.

IMPR9103: Temporary Residence

This course introduces all aspects of temporary status relating to foreign nationals, including visa requirements for temporary residence such as documentary and medical examination requirements and the procedures for applying to enter Canada as a visitor, student or worker. Specifically, this course focuses on the Labour Market Impact Assessment process and the International Mobility Programs, as well as other work permit exemptions. This course also addresses the study permit application process for international students as well as extension applications, restoration applications and the meaning of "implied status".

IMPR9104: Permanent Residence (Economic Classes)

This course presents the concepts and documentation relating to permanent residence: Federal Economic Class and Provincial/Territorial Programs. This course focuses on federal skilled workers, Canadian experience class, provincial nominee programs, business immigrants and live in caregivers.

IMPR9105: Permanent Residence (Family Class, Humanitarian and Compassionate Applications)

This course presents the concepts and documentation pertaining to the Family Class and the programs available for Canadian Citizens and permanent residents to sponsor members of the Family Class. It also addresses the policies pertaining to humanitarian and compassionate applications.

IMPR9106: Refugees and Protected Persons

This course focuses on understanding the different types of refugees and determining their particular status. It presents the concepts and related documentation pertaining to inadmissibility, enforcement and removals. It also focuses on the process, procedures and documentation associated with refugee applications.

IMPR9107: Professional Immigration Practice and Ethics

This course provides a thorough overview of the profession of immigration consulting with a focus on professional practice management. It addresses the requirements to work as a professional immigration consultant and how to run a financially successful, regulated and government compliant practice. A strong focus will be placed on the ICCRC Code of Professional Ethics, the responsibilities of a regulated immigration consultant and the regulatory environment that governs the practice of immigration consultants.

Employers may be reimbursed up-to 2/3rd of the training costs through the Canada-Alberta Job Grant.

Intercultural Competencies for Leaders Certificate Program (non-credit)

This certificate program is designed for anyone working in diverse workplace settings. Skills learned in the program will support effective communication with an increased understanding in working with others who come from diverse backgrounds. Participants will need to successfully complete 4 courses to earn the certificate. Courses 1 and 2 are compulsory foundational courses. Participants can choose which two of the remaining courses they wish to complete to earn the certificate. Participants are evaluated on their participation in the program; must satisfactorily complete all requirements and achieve a 65% minimum on the final quiz. Requirements include participating in and completing:

  • 12 hours online content and assignments
  • 1 final course quiz (minimum passing grade 65%)
  • 1 comprehensive final assignment

Maintenance Management Professional Certificate

Developed and authorized by the Plant Engineering and Maintenance Association of Canada (PEMAC), this certificate is designed for people aspiring to management positions in the maintenance field and those already in maintenance management looking for formal training. MMP’s develop the knowledge to provide cost effective management of the existing physical assets and insight into future acquisitions, improvements in uptime, production capacity, equipment reliability, safety, environmental compliance, economic life of assets, return on investment and effective communication between departments. The MMP Certificate is comprised of the eight modules listed below.
It is recommended that learners start with Module 1 and then take Modules 2-7 in any order. Module 8 must be taken at the end.

Petroleum Industry Management Certificate

Recommended for both entry-level and established employees in the petroleum industry who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding of the basics of Canada’s oil and gas exploration, production and pipeline sectors, including: administrative, supervisory and management staff; project managers and planners; finance and administration; procurement and supply chain; environment and stakeholder relations.

This is a foundational management certificate program that will provide you with an understanding of the Canadian petroleum industry – covering the topics you will need to become familiar with the oil and gas and pipeline sectors. Private Investigation Certificate
