Food Safety, Sanitation, and Hygiene Literacy

If you want to learn more about food industry in Alberta and obtain the provincial certification in food safety, the Food Safety, Sanitation, and Hygiene Literacy course will teach you the necessary content. This course meets health laws in Alberta. You will learn about hygiene, microbiology, and food poisoning and you will practice ways to handle food safely. You will also learn ways to prepare, store, cook, and freeze food. In addition to 20 hours of class time, you will also spend 3 hours of practicum in a commercial kitchen. When you complete this course, you will receive a Bow Valley College Certificate of Completion in Food Safety, Sanitation, and Hygiene. You will also take the test to obtain the provincial certification in food safety.

Additional Information

The minimum recommended CLB score for English language learners who want to register in these courses is Reading: 6, Writing: 5, Listening: 5, and Speaking: 5.
